I have written about this before…learning to appreciate the things and the wonderful people in our lives. Yet I feel it’s something that needs to be brought up again from time to time, almost as if a reminder. Like those little wake up calls we get. We hear or read something and it sticks with us for a short bit but then we fall again to old ways. Yet maybe if we hear it enough, it might start to stick with us.
As far back as I can remember, I've lived my life in awe. To me, this world is completely magical. I feel everything that surrounds us in our natural world is beautiful and we are more than blessed to be able to walk this earth in the first place. Yes, there are a lot of horrible, painful, hurtful things going on in the world, that unfortunately, are far beyond anyone’s control. Yet the things we do have, without needing even a penny to our name, are right out our own window, right at our doorstep, right under our bare feet, and they are so full of life.
Nature, she's there, waiting to be recognized for her calming effects. Waiting to be explored by little and big hands alike. This beauty should never be pushed aside, no matter how busy our life my seem. This beauty deserves to be deeply appreciated, because in reality, it’s what gives us life. It gives us the ground we walk on. It gives us the very air we breathe. The water that sustains us.
Our lives are busy, so busy at times that some days seem to be ending before they even begin. Yet stopping and taking a moment or two to appreciate the little things around us can not only recharge our soul but can also heal our heart. A little gratitude and appreciation every day can go a long way.
But what about the struggles we are faced with and are forced to go through? Well, maybe at times we should be appreciative and thankful for some of those moments as well. When we’re in the midst of a problem or something hurtful it sometimes seems nearly impossible to feel thankful in anyway. When we are burdened with things, it can seem to take over our entire mind, sometimes our entire life. Yet in truth, sometimes the struggles we face actually become our biggest lessons in the end. Looking back, with an open mind, many times we can be thankful for the struggles we went through, especially if it teaches us a lesson or steers our life in a different, positive direction.
Rarely when our day to day good stuff happens do we stop to be thankful. It’s not until the good goes bad do we realize how good we had things in the first place. No matter what, good day or bad, for the majority of us, there is almost always something to be thankful for. Like I said, just stepping out into nature. That alone is a blessing.
My point is, no matter who we are, we could all use a bit more gratitude in our lives. Take a few minutes a day to just stop and think and realize, if you are sitting somewhere comfortably reading this blog, you have it better than many others, for there are many people whose main focus of the day is to just find clean water.
If we can train our-self to become a bit more aware of our thoughts, we can learn to consistently remember to search out the good. We are fortunate in this life and I think we can all agree the good in our life needs to be recognized...sometimes a bit more then we give it credit for.
