I can’t believe we are over a full week into the new year already. If the weeks are going to go this quick, this year will be over in a heartbeat. As much as I would have loved to get up and go on my usual morning run as I do so in the warmer weather, last week in particular has kept us in. It’s been not only cold but darn right frigid out there.
Yet I’m not complaining. I got a lot done. Way more done then if it was sunny and 80 degrease out. Those warm days are just oh so great to get out in nature and just be free. Yet this week, I’ve felt very productive. I’ve gotten things cleaned up, boxes ready for donation, things painted, art shows applied to and in general found inspiration in ways that I really didn’t expect.
Yet most importantly, I’ve approached some of the changes I want to make differently. Instead of focusing all on what I want to change, which at times gets over whelming to me, I’ve focused on the things I don’t want anymore. Not to sound negative, some real positive can come out if it.
I think by not only focusing on what you want, but also focusing on what you don’t want, will force you down that path to think about your ‘why‘. I believe finding your ‘why’ in anything you do will help direct you down a positive path. Ultimately that’s what we all want with everything we do, a positive outcome. Yet if you don’t even know why you’re doing what you’re doing it’s a good way to set yourself up for failure. Once again, not to sound negative, but how many have fallen into that trap of going through the motions of life mindlessly? Sure we all want things but if our strategies are not set up mindfully in how to get there… we’re not going anywhere.
So don’t only think about what you want out of life, look at the big picture and think about what you don’t want. Whether it’s not going to bed so late, not wanting to spend so much money, whether it’s not wanting to eat junk food, or watch TV or put yourself down, or live in fear of your goals, or live with addictions. Whatever it is, whatever it is you don’t want, think of that and then think of the smallest simplest steps you can take to break away from it to direct you towards what you do want. Still, always keep that vision in your mind of what outcome you do want. Yet let the dark thoughts of what you don’t want help direct you to your why.
We are all given one life. Many have struggled a lot harder than others in life, yet there is not one person out there who hasn’t struggled with something. No matter that something, no matter how big or small, we are all equipped with the power in us to write out own story.
Ask yourself what you don’t want in your life. Ask yourself why. Envision the life you do want and ask yourself why. Realize the smallest step toward any goal is a step, no matter how big or small. Be mindful of your choices, of your don’t wants and wants. Be mindful of the steps you take because ultimately those steps will be the steps that will walk you down the path to success.
