Over a month into this year already. It's hard to believe, isn't it?
How are your new year's resolutions going? You know, the ones you made late last year, with all best of intentions of starting in January. Idealily, January 1st. (I know, it seems so long ago) I'm sure you might have one or two, or a few.
Have you ever realized sometimes you might start off the year with the best of intentions but as the days pass and the weeks go by and the months fade away, you can easily fall into old habits and have a repeat of all you swore not to repeat?
Has that ever happened to you?
'New year's resolutions' might not always be the best way to approach what you want to change, because if they fail, it might even seem like the whole year is a scratch. Eventually, as the year approaches the end, it's so easy to think 'I'll just start next year'. Yet you never know what the next year will bring. In many cases, it leaves room wide open for repeating the same cycle.
One thing you do know is that you are here now.
You have this moment. It's the choices you make now, in this moment that will determine your tomorrow. It's the choices you make now that will get you closer to your goal. Not because it's a new year, but because you made a decision in this moment to make a change.
So often the moment you are actually in gets looked over. It's so easy to think 'I'll start this in January', or 'I'll start this next week on Monday'. You might think to yourself 'I'll start that later'.
But what about now?
Why not today?
Too busy, sound complected or don't feel completely ready? Well, I hate to break it to you but there will ALWAYS be busyness. As for being too complicated? Most big, good things are, but with small steps you can tackle them. Believe me. And sometimes things seem more complicated than they really are, as you find out as you go along. As for being ready? Are you ever really ready? I don't think most of us are.
It's the ones who take the leap...'ready or not'...who move forward.
So, think to yourself, what is it you want to start or do? You might have one thing in your mind or maybe you are like me and have million ideas swarming through your mind. No matter what, start small. Start with one today where it is achievable for you. What is the one thing that has sat in the back of your mind you want to tackle or achieve? It can be anything from as small as reading a book to as big as writing your own book and publishing it.
Once you start one thing today, then you can add on the next and so on. But if you overwhelm yourself, you will get nowhere. Small steps are better than no steps.
You want to start reading that book that's been sitting around? Pick it up and read for 10 minutes. Today. Want to practice yoga or mediation? Block off 20 minutes and start. Today. Want to start up your own business but have no clue where to start? Reasearch your first question about it. Today. Have a lot of decluttering to do but the thought is too overwhelming? Not if you empty the smallest draw. Do just that one...Today. Not sure what to do with what's in it? Well, in that case you probably don't need most of it in the first place...but that's a whole other post...
My point is. There is something I am sure in the back or your mind or consistently floating throughout it that you say, 'I really want to get started on that' or 'I really want to learn that' or 'I really want to become successful at that'.
Well, unfortunately, it's not going to start itself, is it?
It needs you.
Today is the day. Not next week, not January 1st, but today. Today is as good as any other day, isn't it?
There has been not one thing read, one home decluttered, or practice learned, or book written or business started by someone who said, 'I'll start when the time is right'. The time will never be 'just right'.
All you have is now.
All you have is this moment.
Today.
What a wonderful day to start on your goal.
And a little bonus...if you keep it up every day... Just think where you'll be a month or a year from now.
Talk soon...
